Teens invited to ‘Nightmare Before the Holidays’ party on Dec. 16.

Teens of Stillwater looking for a fun, relaxing activity this winter can sign up for the Stillwater Public Library’s (SPL) “Nightmare Before the Holidays” party. At this program, teens in sixth through 12th grades will watch a classic movie about a pumpkin king who looks to spread the joy of Christmas while adding some ghoulish fun. Those attending will make a holiday craft and eat festive treats inspired by the movie. The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 16, from 6-8 p.m. Librarians request registration to help ensure there are enough snacks and supplies for everyone to attend.

Jordan Stine, SPL’s teen librarian, looks forward to hosting his first in-person event.

“Creating a fun, safe environment where teens can hang out with their friends and engage in a creative activity really benefits the Library,” Stine said. “The goal is to start having regular teen programs again and encourage more teens to visit the Library.”

Those attending may dress up as characters from the movie or wear their favorite holiday hats and sweaters. If enough teens dress up, they can win small prizes for categories like best costume, ugliest sweater and silliest hat.

The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library provide funding for movie licensing, craft supplies, snacks and drinks for programs, including “Nightmare Before the Holidays.”

“The gratitude we have for the Friends of the Library is insurmountable,” Stine said. “Without them, the teens could not do half of the programs they love. Their support means the world.”

Stine also appreciates having the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) volunteers to help plan teen Library events.

TAC members sign up for a year-long term to help plan teen programs, provide input on which young adult materials to order and volunteer for events and projects as needed. Members also earn community service hours, gain leadership experience, make new friends and become eligible to participate in TAC-only programs and events.
