Digital magazines now available at your library

The Stillwater Public Library is pleased to announce that digital magazines are now available to check out from the Oklahoma Virtual Library (OKVL). The e-library magazine collection includes 25 popular titles such as Reader’s Digest, Country Living and HGTV Magazine.

Anyone with a Stillwater Public Library card can access the collection by using the Libby or OverDrive app on their smart phone, tablet, e-reader or computer. Content can also be accessed via a web browser without downloading an app.

“We are so happy that we are able to bring this format back to our digital collection,” said Andrea Kane, circulation supervisor and OKVL coordinator. “Magazines have only been available a short time, but there have already been over 300 checkouts across all libraries belonging to OKVL.

The addition of magazines was made possible thanks to a recent grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) made available through a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

“Our digital library collection would not be possible without ODL and IMLS,” Kane said. “Many people do not realize how expensive digital titles can be for libraries. Grants are the reason that we are able to have such an outstanding collection of digital materials.”

The Stillwater Public Library’s digital collection also includes more than 40,000 e-books, 10,000 audiobooks, and 600 videos.

“Our offerings have expanded substantially much since we started the Oklahoma Virtual Library in 2011,” adds Kane. “It’s a fantastic resource for patrons who are busy and have a difficult time making it to the library. Digital titles also do not incur fines, they check back in automatically when they’re due.”

Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Payne County is eligible to receive a free library card. People who live out of county can still get a card for an annual $25 fee. Photo identification and proof of residency, employment or school enrollment must be provided along with a library card application. Detailed information about getting a library card, including links to applications, can be found at

Patrons interested in trying out the e-library can receive help from librarians to get started.

“Librarians at the adult help desk are always happy to assist people and give them guidance for using digital resources,” said Kane. “Bring your device and stop by for quick set-up help, or schedule a free one-on-one appointment for an hour long tutorial that includes general help using your device.”
