Fan-favorite returns to Stillwater Public Library on Sept. 9

The Stillwater Public Library’s mini-comic convention, LexiCon, returns on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. LexiCon3 is a free TV, movie, book and gaming event that allows fans to celebrate their favorite universes. Each person attending will have a chance to win a set of four 3-day passes to the OKC Wizard World Comic Con.

“We are so excited at the chance to offer these Comic Con passes,” said Paula Long, LexiCon coordinator. “It is one of the biggest prizes we have ever given away and some fan is going to be very happy at the end of the day.”

The same prize will also be given away for the winner of the adult costume contest. Teen cosplayers and children will also get to show off their costumes during two other separate contests taking place throughout the day.

In addition to the contests, LexiCon3 will feature an Artists Alley with professional and hobby artists selling comic and anime art, vendors offering every sort of fandom merchandise, tabletop and video gaming, and fandom panels.

“Last year, we had an amazing panel and audience discussion about ‘The Walking Dead’ season cliffhanger,” said Long. “We realized how much fans just want to get together with each other and a few ‘experts’ to hash out all of the fascinating possibilities of their favorite universe.”

This year’s Expert/Panel discussions focus on Star Wars and Stranger Things. One other panel may pop-up, as well.

“That absolutely riveting next-to-last episode of “Game of Thrones’ begs to be dissected,” said Long. “Unless, the writers wrap up the season with a lot of answers to last week’s episode, then we will certainly have a GOT panel pop-up sometime during the day.”

Along with panels, LexiCon3 includes two additional sessions, a fanfiction class with writer Barbara Rich, who has posted over 600 pieces in the Tolkien fandom, and a “Choose Your Own Adventure” game show. During the game show, the audience will make story choices for Page Master Allen Jenkins and his friends, Joe Flanders, Drew Allen, and Kyle McCluskey who will be navigating their way through the pages of a deadly, exciting adventure.

The day’s schedule includes:

  • 10 a.m. – Doors, vendors, and children’s craft room opens
  • 10:30 a.m. – Children’s costume contest (Birth – Grade 5)
  • 11:30 a.m. – Choose Your Own Adventure interactive performance & Star Wars panel
  • 12:30 p.m. – Adult costume contest (18 and over)
  • 1:30 p.m. – Fanfiction class and Stranger Things panel
  • 2:30 p.m. – Teen costume contest (6-12 grades)

The children’s activities will be provided by the Wondertorium in the library’s storytime room. Children will be making Minecraft torches and superhero signals and constructing superhero vehicles with lighted laser pegs. The children’s crafts are also free.

Families are also encouraged to bring smart phones or cameras for photo-ops with members of JediOKC, Mandalorian Mercs and Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) – Province of Mooneschadowe.

Refreshments will be available for purchase at the library’s booth. Candy bars, chips, sodas and water will be sold by members of the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC). TAC members will also sell an array of fandom pins, which have been popular at the last two LexiCons. All proceeds earned at the booth will be used to expand the library‘s graphic novel collection.
