Get Help Starting a Business or Side-Hustle with Free Classes at the Library

Story provided by Stillwater Public Library

The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) and Meridian Technology Center (MTC) are having two business classes this spring. Learn the basics of starting a business on Saturday, May 6, from 1-3 p.m., and then on Tuesday, May 9, from 6-7 p.m., get tips for starting a side-hustle. Both classes are free and open to the public.

Community members looking to leap into entrepreneurship can sign up for one or both classes. Brad Rickelman, assistant director of business and entrepreneurial services at MTC, is ready to assist with the transition and answer participants’ questions.

“Starting a business is no simple task but it can be an enjoyable experience,” Rickelman said. “I look forward to assisting with the journey.”

Rickelman’s first class is on Saturday, where he will discuss finances, marketing, the pros and cons of online vs. brick-and-mortar businesses and more. Attendees are encouraged to come with questions or submit them when signing up.

New this year is the side-hustle class that is Tuesday evening. Rickelman will focus on the necessities needed to run a business when balancing it with regular day job responsibilities.

Rickelman believes the side-hustle class is an excellent opportunity for those not yet ready to fully transition into entrepreneurship.

“Sometimes you just want to make a little money on the side and have no plans to start a larger business,” Rickelman said. “And sometime you just want to test the waters before going all in. This class will have advice for both.”

Participants can register for one or both classes at The library also has a collection of books available to help with starting a new business that can be found in the nonfiction section of the library in the 650s and in the OK Virtual Library.
