Citizens have the opportunity to hear from elected officials at “Meet Your Legislators” on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 5-7 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library. The Stillwater League of Women Voters (LWV) and the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library also sponsor this annual free event.

Local representatives, including Senators Chuck Hall and Tom Dugger and Representatives Trish Ranson, John Talley and Ty Burns, all plan to attend to discuss the new legislative session. Other elected City of Stillwater officials invited include Councilors Amy Dzialowski, Christie Hawkins, Kevin Clark and Tim Hardin, as well as City Manager Kimberly Meek and Deputy City Manager Brady Moore. County Commissioners Zach Cavett, Chris Reding and Rhonda Markum have also received an invite.

Gladeen Allred, a long-time LWV member, looks forward to coordinating this event every January.

“We appreciate being able to give citizens the chance to interact with elected officials and discuss issues,” Allred said. “It’s such an important part of our democratic process.”

Library Director Stacy DeLano concurs.

“I think that what makes this event special is getting the ability to speak personally with local leaders,” DeLano said. “On this one evening you can be seen and heard by numerous decision-makers.”

“Meet Your Legislators” is a come-and-go event with complimentary refreshments provided by the LWV and the Friends of the Library. The LWV will moderate the evening.

Attendees can submit questions for representatives at the event on notecards. The moderator will ask questions as time allows, ensuring that each legislator has the same amount of time to respond.

Officials running for open positions are invited to attend and speak personally with citizens but cannot address the audience as a whole.

Anyone interested in researching current legislation or looking up their local representatives before attending the event can visit oksenate.gov and oklegislature.gov.

This is a drop-in event and registration is not required, but those who would like a reminder email can sign-up at stillwaterok.gov/LibraryRegister or by calling the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106.
